I was just looking up Scott and Bailey episodes on wikipedia and realised that every episode so far for series three has been directed by a woman.
So, if we break it down:
a. the show was devised by two women (Suranne Jones and Sally Lindsay)
b. the show stars three women (Surrane Jones, Lesley Sharp and Amelia Bullmore) with Nicola Walker currently receiving fourth billing, and Pippa Haywood now in the opening credits and her character adding a fourth female cop into the mix.
c. every single episode of this show has been written by women (Sally Wainwright and Amelia Bullmore).
d. Oh, and now the show is being overwhelmingly directed by women (Morag Fullarton and Julie May have directed the last four episodes).
So not only is a show which has multiple complex woman as its main characters with the heart of the show being the friendships between these women, which in itself is a rare thing, but the driving creative forces behind the show are also women which is even rarer.
Oh, yes, and it’s also a really great show and possibly the most wonderfully realistic cop show on television.
